OK, media; War you wanted, war you got

Don't like it? Then don't start one

OK, media; War you wanted, war you got

We told you in September that the public’s trust in the news media is at an all-time low of 31 percent, according to a Gallup poll. I suspect that if you took another one today it would be even lower. And while it may be true that Donald Trump has had something to do with that, it’s only because he’s brought out the fullness of the behavior that proves just how untrustworthy they are.

Media had a cow

President Trump’s press conference on Thursday was a truly astonishing event. He kicked it off with more than half an hour’s worth of updates on the progress he’s been making on issues that matter to the American people. This is substantive news, and you’d think you’d hear about it after the president discussed it at length in a press conference
But you didn’t. What you heard is:
Trump assails media!
Trump unhinged!
Trump is a racist!
Trump won’t answer Russia questions!
Trump rants and raves!
This came days after the mainstream media had a cow because, during a joint appearance with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the president called on only two reporters – one from Townhall and one from the Christian Broadcasting Network. The left-wing MSMers got totally shut out, and most of them took to social media to express their rage about it.

Trump did not simply take their attacks lying down. He fought back. Hard. And he won

Too bad!
Here’s what’s happened to the media, and this is entirely of their own doing: During the presidential campaign, they declared absolute war on Donald Trump. It was not Trump’s idea for this war to happen. It was theirs. They did everything they could think of to persuade the American public not to elect Trump president, calling him a danger to the republic and the most unprepared man ever to seek the office. They abandoned all pretense of objectivity and went into full battle mode against Trump.
They declared war. So . . . if it’s war you want, it is war you will get. Trump did not simply take their attacks lying down. He fought back. Hard. And he won.
Trump’s win proved something that has the media terrified, and it should. It proved that you can take them on, run for president without their favor, and still win. It proved that you can refuse to give them an inch or do even the slightest thing to placate them, that you can draw their fire completely and totally, and it won’t matter.
He proved that the media do not have the influence they want everyone to think they have. And for them, that is terrifying.

They have never faced a counterattack like this from a Republican president

But have they learned their lesson? Not at all. As we’ve seen in the aftermath of this press conference, they have continued to ignore real, substantive news in favor of anything and everything they can use to make Donald Trump look bad. That is why Trump is going over their heads and updating the American people directly on the work he’s doing, even as he attacks the media for their dishonesty and reminds everyone of how little trust the people have in them anymore.
They think they can take him down now, just as they thought they could take him down during the campaign. It failed then. It will fail now. No one is listening to them. The president is accusing them of being liars, and the public largely believes him.
They have never faced a counterattack like this from a Republican president – a species they are used to walking all over and facing no consequences whatsoever. With this Republican president, they pushed too hard and went too far, and it is not turning out well for them.
War they wanted. War they got. War is hell. Maybe they should have thought of that before they fired the first shots.
