Trump Fails to Focus on Best Defenses of Comey Firing

Timing of Firing Was Justified for Multiple Reasons; Not a Sign of Alleged Corruption, Weakness, or Fear

Trump Fails to Focus on Best Defenses of Comey Firing

The only justified criticism of President Trump’s firing of FBI Director Comey is the president’s failure to focus on the strongest and most obvious defenses of the timing of the firing. Comey has been criticized by Democrats as well as by Republicans since he got involved in the Hillary email investigation, but the main criticism of President Trump focuses on the timing of the firing. The actual main explanation is that the FBI Director reports directly to the Associate Attorney General, and that position wasn’t filled in the Trump administration until just about a week ago, in large measure because the Democrats delayed the confirmation of the Attorney General who was obviously needed in order to appoint associates. The Associate Attorney General was immediately tasked to investigate the competence and appropriateness of the Director of the FBI, and in about a week this investigation was begun and completed.

Trump also fails to focus enough attention on the fact that Obama’s own people and the press have failed to find any evidence of collusion of the Trump Administration with the Russians

It is clear, therefore, that Trump would have been improper had he dismissed Comey immediately after the inauguration without a Justice Department in place and without a proper investigation. Comey should have been dismissed by Obama long ago, considering that the Democrats’ top leaders before and after the election, Senators Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer and others lost confidence in Comey and felt he deserved to be fired long ago, and a dark black cloud hung over Comey even when Obama was still in the White House.
Trump and his supporters should also be criticized not for firing Comey, but for failing to adequately point out that it is specious and totally irrational at best – and perfidious in fact – for the hypocritical Democrats to state that firing Comey is a reason to hire a special prosecutor for the allegations of collusion of the Trump Administration with the Russians since 1) firing Comey doesn’t stop the investigation;  and 2) if the top person in an investigation is incompetent, removing him leaves a more competent second in command in charge, as well as everyone else involved in the investigation.
Trump also fails to focus enough attention on the fact that Obama’s own people and the press have failed to find any evidence of collusion of the Trump Administration with the Russians. Communications with members of the transition team does not constitute collusion; it constitutes proper preparation prior to the assumption of power.

If there has been any proof of collusion, more than mere allegations, it would be proof of collusion by Hillary and some of her closest associates and relatives

If there has been any collusion in the past year, it was defended by the press, most notably former Attorney General Loretta Lynch’s meeting with former President Clinton on an airplane right before Comey cleared Hillary upon flying – not on a plane – but flying in the face of all proper procedures by;
  1. not interrogating Hillary under oath,
  2. not preparing official notes of the interrogation,
  3. not interrogating her a second time and comparing her answers to check for conflicts as is routinely done;
  4. not taking the normal amount of time and following the necessary procedures to analyze the interrogation, but
  5. clearing Hillary the next day,
  6. after delineating her many transgressions of American law, and
  7. not putting any of the alleged transgressions before a grand jury,
  8. stating that no reasonable prosecutor would prosecute her for any of them even though
  9. super prosecutor Rudolph Giuliani and many other prosecutors and former prosecutors immediately said that some of the transgressions were indeed prosecutable, and
  10. Comey claimed that intent was needed but not proven as to some of Hillary’s transgressions when
  11. the law states that no proof of intent was necessary, as any first year law student looking at the law would affirm.
If there has been any proof of collusion, more than mere allegations, it would be proof of collusion by Hillary and some of her closest associates and relatives. Trump should focus on the failure of the press to highlight proven collusion with the enemy such as Hillary’s involvement in the transfer of 25% of America’s nuclear weapon ingredient uranium to Russia, Hillary’s top campaign manager John Podesta’s receiving $30,000,000 from the Russians, and $30,000 from the Saudis for a month’s worth of lobbying; Hillary’s brother being a registered agent of a foreign government; and the list goes on and on.

Above all, Comey has been shown to be incompetent

Trump and his representatives also fail to adequately focus on the facts that President Clinton fired his FBI Director Sessions after a shorter period of time; Obama fired Flynn not for collusion with the enemy but for publicly expressing opinions contrary to Obama’s; Obama had renewed Flynn’s national security clearance; Trump fired Flynn not because of alleged collusion but because of Flynn’s failure to make some disclosures which could have been inadvertent.
Above all, Comey has been shown to be incompetent in many ways that have been documented, which is beyond the scope of this article. As a businessman – not as a former head of the Apprentice—Trump is oriented to firing incompetence.
